Title: Digital New York History
Date: April 12, 2018
Place: Capital District Library Council
Presenter: Susan D'Entremont
Description:
Come learn about the ways you can access New York's online primary sources. We will discuss several free websites, including New York Heritage and New York State Historic Newspapers, that contain digitized material help by libraries in the Capital District and throughout New York State. Much of this material is difficult to access in person because of limited facilities and hours of the holding institutions, so digitizing it expands access exponentially.
Topics of discussion will include what types of historical materials are available online, how to effectively browse and search the various sites, how libraries have used digitized material to market themselves and increase the visibility of their collections, and exhibits and curriculum packets that use some of this digitized material. We will also briefly touch on how your institution can add material to these ever-expanding resources.
Also, we will be giving away a $25 Amazon Gift Card to one lucky winner in honor of NYS Library Assistants Day!
Cost: $10 cash or check, covers the cost of the workshop, baked ziti, salad, and cake
Deadline to register: April 10, 2018
*We will be collecting donations for the Autism Society
