Description: This all-day workshop will deal with conflict of all sorts that may arise in a library workplace. It will cover internal and external conflict, including dealing with patrons, board members, and staff . We also invite participants to submit their own issues and situations prior to the program for discussion. Identifying details in the submitted scenarios will be changed to help ensure anonymity.
Topics will include what conflict is and the factors that affect it, communication, differences between internal and external conflict, and the five behaviors of a cohesive team. Participants will learn about their personal communication style.
The workshop will be a combination of lecture, discussion, activities, questions and answers, as well as discussion of scenarios or problems submitted by participants. Presenter: Evelyn Neale is the President of Successful Change, Inc. and the Executive Director of the William K. Sanford Town Library in Colonie, NY. She works with individuals and organizations on growth, change, strategic planning, effective communication, and healthy workplace culture. She has a Masters in Information Science and has worked in a variety of library positions.
Cost: $40 for members of CDLC and other ESLN Councils. $60 for non-members. Price includes lunch and materials.
